This talented musician and sound artist had started under the moniker Jetone, later completing his transition from electronic techno and IDM to ambient music by using his own name. He recieved critical acclaim with his 8 albums and many EPs, as well as collaborative works with names such as Ben Frost, Johann Johansson, Kara-Lis Coverdale, Grimur Helgason, Daniel Lopatin, Christof Migone, Martin Tétreault and Aidan Baker. Hecker was born in Vancouver, he studied in Concordia University and obtained his PhD at McGill University with a thesis on urban noise, also working as a lecturer in sound culture in the Art History and Communications department of the university.

After three albums and various performances, he dropped the name Jetone and released Haunt Me, Haunt Me Do It Again, which won much acclaim, under his own name in 2001 on the Alien8 label. He was highly inspired by pop culture, creating a more personal sound which featured his experimental tunes and ideological characteristics, enabling his fans to further bond with him. The album was such a big hit that Alien8 went on to release it on vinyl in 2010.

Tim Hecker toured with Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Sigur Rós, recorded with Canadian experimental rock band Fly Pan Am and remixed songs of American post-metal band Isis. His latest album Love Streams was released last year on the 4AD label, featuring vocals from the Icelandic Choir Ensemble.

Tim Hecker will be interviewed by Melis Bischofberger, publisher, creative director and art dealer. She is closely interested in sound art and experiential sound as exciting mediums in terms of potential, usage and accessibility.
