Sinemis is the new solo project of Circassian-Turkish artist Sine Buyuka. Istanbul-born and London-based, Sinemis creates a blend of techno-inflected ambient and electronica. Spreading the sounds of the Turkish ney flute subtly on top of airily layered textures and synths, her output features music that gently flits between the East and West, very much like her hometown. Sine released her first mini-album Dua in November 2022 to critical praise, followed by a remixes ep featuring the likes of Mabe Fratti, KMRU and Hüma Utku. Her past and upcoming releases include music on labels like 7K!, Injazero, Sub Rosa and Nils Frahm’s Leiter.
Sine Buyuka worked as a culture, arts and sports journalist, hosted a radio show and DJ’ed before moving to London in 2012. After a year-long placement at FatCat, she launched the experimental electronic and avant-ambient label Injazero. She is a resident on sound art and experimental radio station Resonance Extra. She is currently a graduate student at Guildhall doing an MA in electronic music. Her previous projects have been featured in outlets like Clash, NTS, Resident Advisor, Groove Mag, BBC 6Music Radio, Electronic Sound...
